San Ranieri Historical Regatta - This is celebrated on 17th June. This is a regatta, which means the boat race. It is celebrated in the honor of the patron saint of Pisa. The night of this happening festival witnesses a large display of fireworks.
The International Festival of Holy Music - The International Festival of Holy Music takes place in the cathedral and is the most important event of its kind in Italy. It presents important compositions in holy music performed by the best Italian and international symphonies and choirs.
Pisa Vini - Organized in the last week of November, this is an exhibition for displaying the production of white and red wines from the province of Pisa. The venue for this exhibition is the Convent of Santa Croce. Tasting, accompaniment with traditional cuisine and the promotion of Pisan gourmet products is the main aims of this event.
Some of the places to be visited in Pisa:
Campo dei Miracoli - This famous square is formed by a complex of four buildings was constructed by some of the eminent architects of that era. This square is designed in Pisan Romanesque style. The best attraction is the alternating rows of white and greenish-gray stone.
The Leaning Tower - This is an incredible tower which needs no introduction. Designed as a bell-tower for the cathedral, work began in 1174 based on a project by Bonanno Pisano. The round tower is composed of a base with blind arches supporting six loggia tiers that culminate in an elegant bell chamber. Each tour to this tower can take a maximum of 40 people. They are accompanied by authorized staff. Tickets to the tower can be purchased from the ticket office near the Leaning Tower.
Santa Maria della Spina - This is a small church built across the banks of the Arno. Its USP is a thorn from the crown of Jesus Christ which has been preserved here for centuries. People from all across the world come here to have a look upon the thorn which was once piercing through the holy head of the Christ.
The Palazzo Reale National Museum - This museum is worth a visit. It houses the treasures ranging from the works of variety. It holds items from official portraits of the courts to historic armors, right up to the Antonio Ceci collection with Italian and Flemish paintings.
